Ngorongoro

Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which is dominated by a large volcanic crater, is one of Tanzania's most spectacular destinations. Abundant wildlife including lions, cheetahs, hyenas, leopards, jackals, serval cats, elephants, elands, hartebeests, endangered rhinos, zebras, wildebeests, are among the residents of the crater. Viewing these animals against the backdrop of the volcanic crater rim makes for memorable setting. Due to the concentration of animals within the crater itself, Ngorongoro lends itself well to visitors seeking a short safari - or makes a great add on.

Tour Itinerary

Drive to Karatu

We will pick you up from your hotel in Arusha and drive with you to Karatu, the closest town to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The drive usually takes about 2.5 hours and we will take a break along the way. In Karuta, you will be staying at one of lodges that cater to travellers using the town as a base for safaris.

Safari Morning

We will start of the morning early with breakfast and coffee, then head out in a 4X4 up to the Ngorongoro Crater rim. From there, we will set out on a walking trek around the crater perimeter which allows you to see the full extent of the valley below. Along the way you may encounter the masai who live in and around the crater amongst the wildlife.

Safari Afternoon

After our walk we will drive down into the crater itself. You will immediately see animals around us due to the high density of wilderness in the crater. Our first stop will be for a packed lunch, then your guide will set out on a drive across the crater.

Overnight in Karutu

Leaving Ngorongoro, we will drive back to Karatu for dinner and a few drinks. The next morning we will drive to Arusha to the destination of your choice.

We price our trips based on the use of public transport or private taxis, and modest but well-maintained hotels with AC rooms and mosquito nets.
